ARTD 2315/DMST2000 Introduction to Visual Meaning

Catalog Description: This introductory course lays the groundwork for visual semiotics and design literacy, to understand how meaning is formed. It consists of practical design applications reflecting cultural, social, political and psychological contexts.

Objectives:

To discover how meaning can be created and manipulated in a visual culture.

To examine the effects of digitization on the visual.

To create meaning-full visual works.

Ancillary course objectives: to achieve technical proficiency in image derivation tools and techniques (namely PhotoShop), and master the lexicon of terms surrounding visual theory and commonly used media.
